Weed Don't Plant

By planting things you are putting yourself in the position of a dictator.

You are in essence telling the ground what to grow and where. When you weed only and don’t plant, you are listening to the earth tell you what it wants to grow there; all the help it needs is for you to get the invaders out of the way and let Ma Earth do her thing.

Planting seems a “natural” thing for us European farmers to do, but, when in Rome…

What we need to learn is restraint. We’ve had plenty of practice finding ways to exercise our ego. That isn’t what we need to learn.

Exercising your ego on the ground is called Gardening. It’s a well-known thing. Lotsa books about it.

Ego has no place in “nature” or “restoration” (which pretends to “natural”ness after all).

It is too tempting to justify what we do in terms of high-flown altruistic motives, but this is dishonest.

You have to call a spade a spade. It’s either natural or it’s gardening. One is about learning, the other about dictating. One is about humility/observation; the other about ego.
