What is Ma Nature Trying to Tell Us?

A Santa Cruz surfer on TV says this year (2000), the red tide remained ALL SUMMER—it usually comes in briefly, then disappears.

“Not toxic to humans, but causes a lot of health problems, especially for people with allergies.”  “I’m not a biologist/chemist, but something is going on, it’s trying to tell us something . . .”

Winter 2000-2001 is warmest in my memory.

2000 for first time ever, clovers growing and flowering far out of season ( in addition to usual season).  Some germinating late summer/fall (Staub).  Many germinating May and coming into flower from July all the way to December (except T. subterranean which winters over!).  Volunteer T. willdenovii in pot begins to flower ca. 1 January.  T. ochroleucum 1 year old has first flowers ca. 1 January.

2000 is year of most extreme “Silent Spring”, i.e. the year when it comes to notice most strongly (haven’t heard hardly any cowbirds in several years).
