Doublespeak and Plain Lies

Examples abound wherever land-rape happens.

  • Reclamation—In other words, justly taking back all those lands that the evil wetlands stole from us.
  • Natural Resources—Something worth money to steal.
  • Homes—Clutter selling for major bucks.
  • Sanitary Landfill—Dump
  • Development—A general term for land rape.
  • Progress—Another term for land rape.
  • Restoration—Yes, that too.
  • Mineral Resource Conservation Area—Graniterock’s ?? strip mine.

Housing tracts are famous for being named after what they aren’t, or what they wiped out:

  • The Villages
  • ____ Estates
  • The Cherry Orchard

(All classic doublespeak)

Or streets: (note that words like “road” and “street” and “highway” have been discarded as passe and unsophisticated. We now have much better words like “parkway,” “boulevard,” “crescent,” “court,” “avenue,” “way”)

Housing tracts have also discarded another hick tradition—straight streets making square blocks. Not even blocks want to be seen as square. So every new subdivision pretends it is some charming Italian hill-town, all loops and curves and not a straight line in sight.

Mining—what it is all about, taking what you can’t put back. Stealing from your kids. Mining minerals, trees, land, oceans.

The Economy—what causes people to mine the clean world and turn it into clutter which later becomes sanitary landfill and pollution.                      Consume(r)
